Shashi Tharoor: ‘Condolences should have been expressed on time on Khamenei’s death’, Tharoor said a big thing on the stand of Indian Government – Shashi Tharoor On Khamenei Death India Should Have Sent Condolences Diplomatic Response

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor gave a big statement on Friday. He said that India should have sent a timely condolence message on the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to Tharoor, even if India had not condemned the attack by America and Israel, expressing condolences would have been the right step.

What did the Congress MP say?

Speaking to a news agency, Tharoor said that he agrees with those who are questioning this decision of the government. He said that India should have expressed its condolences on the day Khamenei died. Given Khamenei’s high position and role in Iran, this would have been the right thing to do.

Shashi Tharoor also mentioned an old incident of the year 2024. He reminded that when former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash, India had immediately declared state mourning and sent its condolences. However, he expressed satisfaction that when the Iranian Embassy in Delhi opened the condolence book, our Foreign Secretary was immediately sent to convey condolences.

difference between condolence and condemnation

The Congress leader also explained the difference between condolence and condemnation. He said that if India does not want to condemn the US-Israel attack due to political reasons, then it is fine. But expressing grief is a different thing. This is a way of showing sympathy towards the people and the government who have lost their loved ones. India should have shown at least this much sympathy.

Said this in your article

When Tharoor was asked about his article published in an English daily, which was slightly different from his party’s stand, he explained in detail. He said, being in the opposition, I fully appreciate what Sonia Gandhi and others in the opposition have said. Because as the opposition we can take a moral stance. This article is more about what the government should do.

He further said that if he was advising the Congress government, he would have said that it should act with restraint in such stressful times. According to Tharoor, exercising restraint does not mean accepting defeat. Rather it is a kind of strength. This shows that we understand our interests well and will take the first steps to protect them. Tharoor stressed that the government must act with great caution during international conflicts. He made it clear that protecting the interests of the country should be the biggest priority.
