The ongoing war between Iran and America-Israel In India, the people of India are only waiting for LPG gas so that the stove in their homes can keep burning. To light this stove, India took out two ships laden with LPG from the closed Strait of Hormuz and also transported them to Gujarat. But there is only so much gas on these ships that within a few hours of disembarkation from the ship, this gas will be exhausted and again the wait will start when new ships will leave from the Strait of Hormuz to come to India with LPG.
strait of hormuz The two ships loaded with LPG have entered India after crossing India, the first is Shivalik and the second is Nanda Devi. Shivalik had reached Mundra Port in Gujarat on March 16 itself while Nanda Devi had also reached Vadinar Port in Gujarat. But the LPG on both these ships is only as much as India spends in about 30 hours.
In fact, the Shivalik which reached Mundra with LPG on March 16 has about 46 thousand metric tons of gas on it. If we look at it from the point of view of filling it in domestic cylinders, then about 32 lakh 40 thousand domestic gas cylinders can be filled with this gas. Nandadevi, which reached India on March 17, is loaded with 47,700 metric tons of gas. And with this, about 33 lakh 61 thousand domestic cylinders can be filled with gas. Overall, if the gas loaded on both the ships is filled in domestic cylinders, then this figure would be around 66 lakh domestic cylinders. Whereas there are a total of 33 crore consumers in India, who book about 70 to 80 lakh cylinders every day. The government’s data itself says that on March 13, 2026, the booking of domestic LPG cylinders was 88.8 lakh, which came down to 77 lakh the next day on March 14.
If we look at the daily consumption according to the government figures, then the gas loaded on Nanda Devi and Shivalik is only as much as the consumption for one day. The rest of the data says that about 80 thousand to 90 thousand metric tons of domestic gas is consumed every day in India. So you can easily guess that on the basis of LPG loaded on Shivalik and Nanda Devi, you were dreaming of ending the LPG crisis, in reality it was only a dream and it will change into reality only when either Hormuz opens or at least two such ships cross Hormuz every day and come to India.
