Rajasthan News: Tikaram Julie’s attack on Rajasthan government, questions raised on CM Bhajanlal Sharma’s visit to Delhi

Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan Assembly Tikaram Julie has raised questions about the financial condition of the state on Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s recent visit to Delhi and meeting with the Union Finance Minister. Julie said that the Chief Minister should have asked for an account of the rights and entitlements of Rajasthan instead of a courtesy call in Delhi.

Citing figures, he said that the economic health of the state is far from the ‘uttarsha’ of the advertisement and in reality the state is moving towards financial crisis. The Leader of Opposition asked whether the Chief Minister had sought answers from the Union Finance Minister on the huge cuts made in Rajasthan’s share.

Huge cut of more than Rs 8,000 crore in the amount received from the Centre.

Clarifying the financial figures, Julie said that the financial rights of Rajasthan are being continuously attacked by the Central Government. Where there was an estimate of Rs 15,000 crore under the SASCI scheme. Only Rs 9,500 crore was found there, which is a direct cut of 37%. Similarly, under Central Taxes (Devolution) only Rs 83,940 crore was received against the target of Rs 85,716 crore. Even in Grant-in-Aid, only Rs 37,910 crore was received against the expectation of Rs 39,193 crore.

He asked where the state’s share of more than Rs 8,000 crore had gone and why the Chief Minister was silent on this. Rajasthan’s share under the 15th Finance Commission is continuously declining and according to the data of Budget 2025-26, there has been a decrease of about Rs 1,776 crore in the amount received from central taxes.

Rajasthan getting trapped in debt trap – Leader of Opposition

The Leader of Opposition exposed the government’s claims of good governance and said that the BJP government, which keeps harping on ‘2 years versus 5 years’, has broken all records in terms of taking loans. Presenting comparative figures, he said that the Congress government had taken a loan of Rs 2.26 lakh crore in its entire 5-year tenure. At the same time, the present BJP government is going to take a loan of Rs 2.22 lakh crore in just 3 years. With what morality does a government that belches out a loan of 5 years in just 3 years talk about financial management? The reality is that the size of the state’s economy (GSDP) has shrunk by Rs 1.13 lakh crore (about 6%), which is a worrying sign for the future of the state.

The general public is yearning for basic facilities – Julie

Tikaram Julie said that on one hand the government is busy juggling with figures, while on the other hand the general public is yearning for basic facilities. There is a huge shortage of LPG in the state, proof of which was seen in the meeting of the Chief Minister himself at Beneshwar Dham. Where food was cooked on wood stoves instead of gas. When LPG is not available in the Chief Minister’s meetings, it can be easily imagined what will be the condition of the common man and small traders. He directly asked the Chief Minister whether he has brought any concrete promise from Delhi to compensate for these losses or has returned only after trapping Rajasthan in the quagmire of debt.
