Dishonesty or cunning? Pakistan accuses Bangladesh of 'DRS theft'Zoom

Pakistan team captained by Shaheen Afridi got defeated in the ODI series.

Dhaka: The end of the ODI series played between Bangladesh and Pakistan will be remembered for more controversies than win-loss. Pakistan team management has lodged a complaint with the match referee that Bangladesh used DRS (Decision Review System) against the rules. Pakistan claims that the Bangladesh captain challenged the umpire’s decision after watching the replay on the big screen, which is a direct violation of ICC rules. The excitement was at its peak. Pakistan needed 12 runs from the last 2 balls to win. Shaheen Afridi was on strike and Rishad Hussain was bowling. One of Rishad’s balls went well outside the leg stump and umpire Kumar Dharmasena declared it ‘wide’.

The surprise came when Bangladesh asked for a review for LBW, even though the ball appeared far away from Shaheen’s feet. Pakistan’s argument was that the review decision was taken after the stipulated time limit of 15 seconds and that too when the replays had been flashed on the big screen of the stadium. As per rules, players cannot take review after watching the replay so that the decision is not affected.

Wide overturned and Pakistan’s hopes dashed
When the matter reached the third umpire and Ultra-Edge was seen, a spike was seen on the toe end of the bat. This meant that the ball had touched the bat. Even though Bangladesh lost the LBW review, the umpire had to change his ‘wide’ decision due to this. Now the equation changed from 11 runs on 2 balls to 12 runs on 1 ball. Shaheen Afridi was stumped out on the last ball and in anger he hit his bat on the stumps. Bangladesh won this match by 11 runs and captured the series.

Salman Agha’s run out controversy also in headlines
Pakistan’s displeasure is not limited to this match only. Salman Ali Aga’s controversial run-out in the second ODI was also in the news. Coming out of the crease, Agha was trying to pass the ball to Mehdi Hasan Miraj, but Miraj ran him out. Agha was so enraged by this that he threw away his bat and gloves, for which he was also fined 50 percent of the match fee.
