New Delhi. India’s Test and ODI captain Shubhman Gill has been named the Best International Cricketer at the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 for his outstanding performance in the 2024-25 season. Gill won the prestigious ‘Polly Umrigar Award’. This is Gill’s second ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award, before this he had won this award in 2023. Gill thanked BCCI for giving him this special award. In this program organized in New Delhi, a ‘rapid fire’ series of questions were asked to the captains of India’s senior men’s and women’s teams – Suryakumar Yadav, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shubhman Gill. During this, Gill talked about sending Rohit Sharma to bat in the last over.
The year 2025 was a great year for Gill and he proved himself as one of the most reliable batsmen of the team in the longer formats of cricket. On the England tour, captain Gill led the team in the five-Test series and scored a total of 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40, making him the highest run-scorer in the series. This also included four centuries and his best score of 269 runs. Gill also played an important role in India’s ‘Champions Trophy’ victory last year. In this tournament, he came to play as the world number one ODI batsman. For this brilliant season, he was chosen Best Cricketer of the Year.

In fact, when Harmanpreet Kaur, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubhman Gill were asked to choose a bowler to bowl the last over for their team and a batsman to bat in the last over for their team in the rapid fire round, they got funny answers. Suryakumar Yadav named Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya for the T20 team. Whereas, Harman chose Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma. When it was Gill’s turn, he took the name of Arshdeep Singh to bowl the last over in the ODI format, while in batting he chose Rohit Sharma. Gill said, ‘Arshdeep, if he is not bowling wide yorkers. Sometimes his one over becomes as long as two overs. Regarding batting, he said, ‘If Rohit Bhai stays till the end, it will be great.’
