New Delhi. Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara has described Sunrisers Hyderabad’s opening pair Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma as one of the most explosive pair of IPL. Pujara believes that it is more dangerous than the pair of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, who once used to open for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pujara praised the batting skills of Head and Abhishek Sharma and the way they dominated the bowlers. Even though Head and Abhishek are less than Kohli and Gayle in terms of experience, their lethal batting has created a different kind of terror among the bowlers. Both these batsmen will once again be seen batting aggressively in the upcoming IPL season starting from March 28.

Between 2011 and 2017, Kohli and Gayle scored 2787 runs while opening in the IPL. There were partnerships of more than 100 runs 9 times. This pair is at second place in the list of highest opening partnership in IPL. At number one is the pair of Kohli and AB de Villiers. Although Head and Abhishek are nowhere near them in terms of runs, they have made very important contributions to the team. Because of him, Sunrisers Hyderabad has made a record score of more than 250 thrice in IPL.

Pujara said that the way Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers have been playing in the last few seasons, it is clear that this is one of the most dangerous opening pairs of IPL. Both the batsmen know how to attack from the very first ball. Because of him, the team has been able to score more than 250 runs many times, which very few teams are able to do in IPL. He said, ‘When we talk about aggressive opening pair in IPL, the names of Kohli and Chris Gayle come to mind, but the pair of Head and Abhishek seems even more dangerous. No bowler feels comfortable bowling in front of him.

Pujara says that Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to change the habit of depending only on their top batsmen. He told that the team plays very well on its home ground in Hyderabad and makes big scores, but their record away from home is weak. Opposing teams know that their main batsmen are Abhishek, Head and Heinrich Klaasen. If these batsmen get out early, the entire team starts struggling to score runs. The opposing teams take advantage of this and stop SRH from scoring big scores.
