Sagar News: The history of Bundelkhand, known as the land of brave Bundelas, is not limited to books only. The soil, ruins and old mounds here still tell stories of the past. Patneshwar Dham, located near Dhana village of Sagar district, is in the news these days for a mysterious reason.
During the excavation of the land here, ancient sculptures and stones are continuously coming out. Local people claim that these sculptures are thousands of years old and are probably the remains of some ancient temple or settlement.
Kalchuri period sculptures found in excavation
According to the local people, the sculptures being excavated here are believed to be from the Kalachuri period i.e. around the 10th to 12th century. Although no official archaeological survey has been done yet, experts believe that this place can be a major subject of research.
Nagraj comes out as soon as he digs.
The most surprising thing about this place is that as soon as the digging of the ground starts, suddenly Nag Devta i.e. snakes start coming out from there. For this reason, many times the excavation work has to be stopped midway. The Chaubey family of Dhana says that they have been watching this scene for the last three generations.
A village named Patna was once situated here.
Rajjan Choubey, owner of 42 acres of land, says that where his land is today, there used to be a big village named Patna. According to him, this village was spread over an area of about 8 kilometers. It is possible that there might once have been an ancient temple or monastery here, which got destroyed over time due to attacks, migration or lack of water and gradually got buried in the soil.
Incomplete excavation going on for three generations
Rajjan Choubey tells that his grandfather was the first to get the excavation done here. At that time also many idols were found, which were kept under the Peepal tree near the temple. After this, his father also got the excavation done and he also found many statues. Now when he himself got the excavation done, the same things came to light again. But every time during digging, snakes start coming out, due to which the work has to be stopped.
Is Nagraj guarding the treasure?
It is said in the folk tales of Bundelkhand that where money or ancient treasure is hidden underground, snakes reside there. Local people believe that something similar can happen here too. For this reason, people feel both reverence and fear about this place and now no one dares to dig deeper.
Archaeological experts told historical possibility
Dr. Nagesh Dubey, Chairman of the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archeology of Dr. Harisingh Gaur Central University, Sagar, says that Dhana and the surrounding area is quite ancient. According to him, this area must have been ruled by Kalachuri rulers between the 10th and 12th centuries and they also built temples related to Shaivism here.
Dr. Dubey believes that when these temples were destroyed, their remains got buried underground and gradually mounds were formed. If archaeological excavation is done here in a scientific manner, then many important historical remains can definitely be unearthed.
