London. Veteran West Indies cricketer Viv Richards said after Team India’s 96-run victory over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final that India has taken its game to a different level in white-ball cricket. He was in London this week, taking up a new role as the official envoy to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in his home country of Antigua and Barbuda in November.
Praising the Indian team, Viv Richards said, in my opinion India has taken the game to a different level, especially in ODI and T20. He said, this is a great gift for the fans, who are passionate about the game and love it very much. I think this has happened because of this love and passion and because of the country in which it is played. When he was asked whether cricket would also be important in his new role, he said, we know that cricket is played a lot in Commonwealth countries. We are famous for these things in this area.
Viv Richards recalled the early days of limited overs cricket, when the Caribbean team was dominant and it was a 60-over game. He told, we won the first World Cup in 1975 and the next in 1979. Even today cricket plays a big role in West Indies. And those who would have been fans of the West Indies team earlier, they will definitely remember our wonderful moments.
