New Delhi. The demand for the players of the Indian women’s team, which won the World Cup this year, is increasing all over the world and ‘The Hundred’ tournament is also not untouched by this. The presence of Indian players was seen in the women’s draft of ‘The Hundred’ under the captaincy of opener Smriti Mandhana, in which Richa Ghosh got a contract of 50,000 pounds (about Rs 61 lakh) and all-rounder Deepti Sharma also got the contract in the auction held here on Wednesday.
A total of 178 players bid for the draft, while 28 were either retained by the franchise or signed directly before the tournament. The league will start from 21st July and end on 16th August. Richa was bought by Manchester Super Giants for 50,000 pounds. Only this franchise bid to buy the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.
Mandhana reached Manchester Super Giants
Manchester Super Giants had earlier strengthened their team by directly signing Australian legend Meg Lanning along with Mandhana, while England spinner Sophie Ecclestone was retained by the team. Meanwhile, Deepti was bought by Sunrisers Leeds for 27,500 pounds (about Rs 34 lakh). The franchise started the bidding and did not have to compete with anyone else to get the experienced Indian all-rounder. However, India’s Yastika Bhatia and Shri Charani were not bought by anyone in the draft, due to which they remained disappointed.
Budget in ‘The Hundred’
Each women’s franchise had a budget of £880,000 to build its team. Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Southern Brave and Trent Rockets had £520,000 left before the draft. Manchester Supergiants, MI London, Sunrisers Leeds and Welsh Fire had a budget of £570,000 before the start of the bidding.
The 2025 Women’s Hundred tournament was won by Northern Superchargers. They won their first title by defeating Southern Brave by 7 wickets in the final played at Lord’s on 31 August 2025. Annabel Sutherland had performed brilliantly in the final.
