A surprising and fortunate news has come out from China, which is becoming increasingly viral on social media. A villager from Longhui County, Hunan Province, named Liu, said his luck changed because of the duck he reared at his home.
While dissecting a home-raised free-range duck, Liu found tiny particles of shining gold in its stomach. Its total weight is claimed to be around 10 grams, and its price in the local market is estimated at around 12,000 Yuan (about 1.65 lakh Indian rupees). That means the person got gold worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh from the duck’s stomach. What is the whole matter, let us tell you.
Was cutting duck for dinner
The incident happened in February 2026, but is now making waves in the media and social media. Liu was cutting the duck for dinner, when he cut the stomach with a knife, shiny particles like gold were seen inside along with soil and digestive material. Initially he thought it might be a piece of metal, but upon examination the particle did not melt or change color, which confirmed that it was real gold. It had six-seven small grains, the largest of which was the size of two sesame seeds. Liu said that the duck had grown up in the open space along the Chenshui River, where gold was mined centuries ago. It is possible that the duck may have swallowed the tiny particles of gold by pecking the soil of the river.
The news went viral
This news has been published in South China Morning Post, Xinwenfang and other Chinese media. Liu’s father called it a ‘sign of good fortune’ and said the family’s fortunes would now turn. As soon as the video and photo were shared on social media, lakhs of views were received, people are commenting – “What a miracle a duck has done!”, “Gold prices are sky high, it is like a lottery!”. Some users linked it to the practice of gold collecting dating back to the ancient Tang Dynasty, when people looked for gold in the stomachs of animals. The recent rise in gold prices has made this incident more interesting. In India also, the price of 24 carat gold per gram on March 10, 2026 is around Rs 16,200-16,600, due to which the price of 10 grams comes to Rs 1.62-1.65 lakh. In China also the valuation in Yuan is similar. Experts say that such incidents are possible in old mining areas, because microscopic gold particles remain in the soil. Last year too, while washing sand in the same river, villagers had found more than 10 grams of gold.
