New Delhi. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated ICC Chairman Jay Shah for the successful organization of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Sharing a picture of himself with the Indian jersey on his social media handle, Infantino also congratulated the Indian cricket team on winning its record third title of the Men’s T20 World Cup.
He wrote, “Congratulations to the ICC and my friend Jay Shah on another brilliantly organized T20 World Cup. Congratulations to India on winning another title. Having traveled to your wonderful country, I know how much this victory means to you.”
In response, Jay Shah wrote, “Thank you Gianni for the compliment. You, like no one else, understand the importance of big global sporting events and what it takes to make them happen. We hope the ICC T20 World Cup will inspire many new cricketers and cricket fans around the world. Now we hand over the responsibility to you for the #fifaworldcup to be held in June. All the best! See you soon.”
Earlier in February, Gianni Infantino had met Jay Shah in Milan, which was considered an important moment between the two most popular sports in the world. After the meeting, Infantino shared his photo with the ICC chairman on Instagram and praised his contribution to the development of cricket. He also wished them all the best for the return of cricket in the 2028 Summer Olympics to be held in Los Angeles. He also expressed his desire for future cooperation to unite the world through sports.

Infantino wrote in his Instagram post, “I was delighted to meet ICC Chairman Jay Shah in Milan today. The excellent work he has done to advance the beautiful game of cricket is admirable. I wish him and the entire team all the best when cricket returns to the Summer Olympics in two years. I look forward to working together and collaborating to connect the world through sport.”
Talking about the T20 World Cup, the final match of the tournament was played on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, in which India won the title by defeating the New Zealand cricket team by 96 runs. With this victory, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. India also created history by winning the title for the second consecutive time after 2024 and also became the first team to win the T20 World Cup three times in 2007, 2024 and 2026.
