The government seems to be strict regarding the quality and storage system of medicines in Delhi. On the instructions of Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the Drugs Control Department conducted raids and inspection campaigns in the wholesale drug markets of the capital. During this period, 6 wholesale pharmaceutical firms were investigated. The officials examined the storage arrangements, records of medicines and documents related to purchase and sale.
During investigation, it was found that 4 out of 6 firms were not following the rules related to storage and record keeping of medicines. At many places, correct documents related to purchase of medicines were not available. Apart from this, some packets were also found on which the mark of “Institutional Supply” had been erased. Officials believe that in such cases, questions arise on the transparency of supply and sale of medicines.
Large quantity of insulin medicines found
During the inspection, officials also found a large quantity of insulin medicines. These included medicines like Tresiba Flextouch, Glaritus Cartridge, Humalog Mix Kwikpen, Apidra Solostar and Toujeo Solostar. During the investigation, a total of 2104 units of insulin were seized, the estimated value of which is said to be around Rs 20 lakh 6 thousand 24.
Cold chain was not being followed
The most serious matter came to light that two firms were keeping sensitive medicines like insulin at normal room temperature. Whereas to keep insulin safe, it is necessary to keep it in “cold chain” at cold temperature. If it is not kept at the right temperature, the effectiveness of the medicine may reduce and the health of the patients may be seriously affected.
Case registered against two firms
Considering the matter as serious, the Drugs Control Department has registered a case against two firms under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Drugs Rules 1945. Also, samples of seized medicines have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken after the report comes.
Government gave strict warning
Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that it is the priority of the government to provide safe and good quality medicines to the people of Delhi. He said that the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is keeping a strict vigil on the storage and distribution of medicines. If any person violates the rules related to life saving medicines, strict legal action will be taken against him.
Insulin is very important for diabetes patients
According to experts, the number of diabetes patients is increasing rapidly in India. Millions of patients depend on insulin daily. Therefore, it is very important to keep these medicines at the right temperature and deliver them to the patients safely. For this reason, the government keeps conducting inspection campaigns in the drug markets from time to time, so that patients can get safe and effective medicines.
