‘Ganging house’ creates controversy in Delhi Assembly, Speaker sends letter to Atishi

Politics has intensified regarding the ongoing ‘hanging house’ controversy in Delhi Assembly. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta has issued an official letter to Leader of Opposition Atishi and expressed strong objection. This letter has been written regarding the public comments made on the Privileges Committee.

The Speaker has clearly said that if there is any evidence of there being a ‘hanging house’ in the Assembly premises, then it should be placed before the Privileges Committee instead of speaking in the media. He said that it is necessary to provide proof before giving statement on such serious allegations. Making allegations without evidence hurts the dignity of the House.

Matter heated up in assembly regarding ‘hanging house’

According to information, this matter heated up when Atishi Claimed in a press conference that a ‘hanging house’ was present inside the assembly complex. However, before this, the Privilege Committee took the matter seriously and started investigation and sent summons to some leaders. These include the names of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, former Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal and former minister Rakhi Birla. All of them have been asked to appear before the committee on March 6, 2026.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta said in his letter that the Assembly and its committees work independently. It is not right to make statements that influence any investigation. He cautioned the Leader of Opposition that political rhetoric and parliamentary process are different things. Mixing the two is against democratic traditions.

The work of the committee is to protect the dignity and rights of the House – Speaker

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijendra Gupta said that if we talk about the background, there have been controversies in the Delhi Assembly earlier also regarding the investigation of the Privileges Committee. The job of the Privileges Committee is to protect the dignity and rights of the House. If a case of damage to the reputation of the House by any member or outsider comes to light, then the committee investigates.

It is clear from this entire incident that the matter has now taken a political colour. On one hand, the Speaker has said that the dignity of the House is paramount, while the opposition is calling it political pressure. Now everyone’s eyes are on the committee meeting to be held on March 6, where further action in this matter will be decided.
