While traveling on the highway, our eyes fall on many types of road signs. Some boards are immediately understood, while there are some which people ignore even after seeing them. One of these is the green Truck Lay-By board installed on the roadside. Drivers passing by at high speed often see this sign, but very few people know its true meaning. Recently, a picture of a traffic policeman went viral on social media, in which he was seen asking people the meaning of this board. The surprising thing was that most people could not answer this. Whereas this sign is directly related to road safety.
Actually, according to road transport rules, green or blue rectangular boards come under the category of informational road signs. The function of these signals is not to give orders to the driver, but to give information about the facilities available ahead. Such as – petrol pump, hospital, rest area, parking or special place for truck stopping. Truck Lay-By is also a similar signal, which makes the driver alert and aware in advance.
