Finn Allen played 4 dot balls in his inning: In the first semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the cricket world saw a storm which turned the pages of history. New Zealand’s opening batsman Finn Allen has achieved that feat against South Africa, which even the greatest players of T20 cricket could not do. Allen not only took his team to the finals by scoring a century in just 33 balls, but also shattered the years-old record of ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle. During this period he played only 4 dot balls.

New Delhi. In the first semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026, New Zealand’s Finn Allen has changed the entire definition of batting. By scoring a century in just 33 balls against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Allen has scored the fastest century in T20 World Cup history. He completely destroyed the 10-year-old record of Chris Gayle (47 balls, 2016). This is not only the fastest century in the World Cup, but also the fastest century in T20 International history against a full-member team. Allen played only 4 dot balls.
Finn Allen has now become the joint third fastest centuryman in International T20, where he equaled the record of Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe. He has also created a new history for the Kiwi team by leaving behind the record of Glenn Phillips (46 balls). By playing such explosive innings under the pressure of World Cup knockout, Allen has proved that he is the new ‘Universe Boss’ of modern cricket.

Chris Gayle’s record past
Till now, the record of the fastest century in the history of T20 World Cup was in the name of West Indies legend Chris Gayle. Gayle scored a century in 47 balls against England in the 2016 World Cup. For the last 10 years, it was considered impossible to break this record, but Finn Allen crossed it 14 balls ago. His innings proved that no target or record is safe in modern cricket.
Became the first batsman in the world to achieve this feat
This innings of Finn Allen is also special because he did this feat on a big stage like the semi-finals. Till date in the history of T20 World Cup, no batsman has been able to score a century in a knockout (semi-final or final) match. Allen has become the first batsman in the world to score a century in a knockout. Playing such aggressive innings under pressure shows his mental strength.

Who is Finn Allen?
Born on 22 April 1999 in Auckland, Finn Allen is considered the ‘next super-star’ of New Zealand cricket. Allen first came into limelight when he impressed everyone with his batting in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He is known for his fearless batting and ability to strike right from the first ball. He replaced the legendary Martin Guptill in the Kiwi team and proved himself in a very short time. Finn Allen has been a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, where he honed his technique against the best bowlers in the world.
‘Massacre’ against South Africa
In the semi-final match, South Africa batted first and posted a challenging score, but Allen had other intentions. He hit fours and sixes in every corner of the field. His 33-ball innings included record-breaking sixes. Tim Seifert, standing at the other end, remained only a witness to this devastation. Thanks to this inning of Allen, New Zealand won by 9 wickets and South Africa once again had to exit the tournament with the pain of ‘chokers’.

Now it’s time for the finals
After this historic innings, New Zealand now has its eyes on the final to be held on Sunday. New Zealand will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and England. If Allen’s bat performs like this in the final too, then no one will be able to stop New Zealand from winning its first T20 World Cup title.
