
A case of illegal opium cultivation has come to light in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. Police conducted a raid in Digauda police station area of Tikamgarh district on Tuesday and seized about 27 kg of green opium plants from a field. The action was taken on the basis of information from the informer.
The police team raided Khadai Haar area of village Ratanguwan Bhata. Opium plants were planted amidst the wheat crop in the field in such a way that when seen from a distance, it appeared to be normal farming. During the search, a large number of green plants were recovered, the total weight of which was said to be around 27 kg.
Farm owner Ajit Khan, resident of Bamhori Khas, was arrested from the spot. The accused is being brought to Digauda police station and interrogated. The process of registering a case against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is underway.
Police are also investigating who other people may be involved in this illegal farming. Some local sources claim that the family concerned has been associated with illegal activities in the past, although police officials have not officially confirmed this.
Jatara SDOP Abhishek Gautam said that the action continued till late evening and the formal disclosure of the case would be made soon. He said that the campaign against illegal drugs is being carried out continuously in the district and intensive investigation is also being done in the surrounding areas. There is panic in the area after this action. The administration has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal activities.
