
There was tense peace on Tuesday amid ongoing protests in Kashmir against the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an attack. If restrictions remained in place, educational institutions remained closed. The two-day closure of schools and colleges in the valley has been extended till March 7 as a precautionary measure. The bandh remained peaceful in Rajori and Poonch. The markets of Kargil in Ladakh also remained closed.
On Tuesday, some shops were seen open in the Civil Line area of Srinagar and vehicles were seen moving on the roads. Demonstrations took place downtown and in Shia-dominated areas. The clock tower at Lal Chowk has still been kept sealed. Barricades are installed around it. A large number of police and CRPF personnel are deployed in the city. According to senior police officials, restrictions will continue on Wednesday also. Internet services will also be disrupted. The police have appealed to the people to avoid violence and provocation.
Muslim organizations kept shops closed in Rajori city and surrounding areas. Even in the hilly areas, shops belonging to the Muslim community remained closed. The police kept a close watch on every activity. There is no report of any untoward incident anywhere. The tail remained completely closed. During this period, Hindu-Sikh religious, social and business organizations also supported the bandh.
