Liquor shops will remain open during Holi in Delhi. Holi festival has been removed from the list of ‘dry days’. According to an order issued by the Delhi government in January, the festival of colours, Holi, is no longer in the list of ‘dry days’. ‘Dry day’ means days when liquor shops remain closed.
In the notification issued in January, it has been mentioned that Republic Day, Mahashivratri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti will also be celebrated as ‘dry days’. According to the information, this list is for the period from January to March.
Liquor shops remained closed on Holi
The order also states that those holding licenses to run liquor shops will not get any compensation for the closure. For the past few decades, most occasions of Holi have been ‘dry days’ in the national capital, with the aim of preventing law and order problems. The only exception to this was 2022, when the liquor policy brought by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government reduced the number of ‘dry days’ to just three.
