
Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki, in her address to the nation on Monday afternoon, appealed to all the voters to vote compulsorily in the general elections to be held on March 5 and to maintain peace and calm during the elections. Addressing the countrymen through Nepal Television and Radio Nepal, Prime Minister Karki said that the country is once again standing at an important turning point in history.
Gen-ji movement was also mentioned
Describing the coming together of Holi festival and election preparations as symbolic, he said that both this festival of colors and the democratic process are equally important for national unity and future. Referring to the difficult circumstances after the Gen-ji movement, the Prime Minister said that at that time the country was going through a period of instability, fear and uncertainty. He said that it was the primary responsibility of the government to bring the country from the violent situation to a peaceful path and return it on the path of the Constitution, in which success was achieved due to the restraint and cooperation of the public.
‘Consider it a future decision, not a formality’
Prime Minister Karki urged voters not to consider voting as just a formal process, but to consider it as a decision about their future and that of the coming generations. He said that it is a civic duty to leave all other work and reach the polling booth on March 5. He requested all political parties, candidates and supporters to maintain healthy competition, mutual respect and complete observance of silence period. Also praising the efforts of the Election Commission, security bodies and government employees, he said that their impartiality will make the elections clean, free and fear-free.
Government’s eye on misleading information- Karki
He made it clear that impunity will not be encouraged at any level. While wishing Holika festival, the Prime Minister appealed to celebrate Holi with restraint and said that colors should not be applied against anyone’s wishes.
‘I understood my responsibility towards the motherland’
In terms of foreign policy, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the increasing tensions in the Middle East, especially the situation in the Iran region. He said that the safety of Nepali citizens living there is the government’s priority and all Nepali missions have been alerted. In the end, the Prime Minister said that he considered it his responsibility towards the motherland to lead the country in this difficult time. He called upon the citizens to share the happiness of Holi and make the upcoming elections peaceful and historic.
