Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga along with coach Mike Hesson has taken responsibility for the team’s performance.

New Delhi. Pakistan team had entered the last Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup with the hope of making it to the semi-finals. There was a chance to reach the last four by improving the net run rate but the performance of the bowlers ruined everything. Team captain Salman Ali Aga has given a statement regarding the future of his captaincy. He also said that he, along with his coach Mike Hesson, bears the responsibility for the team’s poor performance. Despite a close win over Sri Lanka on Saturday, Pakistan was out of the tournament.

The 2009 champions had to better their net run rate against New Zealand in the last Super 8 match against Sri Lanka. So that they can reach the semi-finals with England. Pakistan made a strong score of 212-8 in 20 overs and won by five runs. However, they needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 runs or less, only then they could qualify. Due to missing this target, their campaign ended in the Super Eight itself.

Talking on the tournament, Salman Ali Aga did not try to avoid criticism and admitted that Pakistan performed poorly in all departments. He said in the post-match press conference, “If I sum up the entire tournament, I think we played below average cricket. We could not bat well throughout the tournament. It would have been better if Sahibzada Farhan had got more support. The middle order has been a problem for the last few years, and we have to focus on it.”

Head coach will take full responsibility with Mike

“We could not qualify for the semi-finals in the last four ICC tournaments because we did not take the right decisions at crucial moments. The coach and I will take full responsibility for this performance,” he said.

Salman Ali Aga also made it clear that he will not take any immediate decision regarding his captaincy. “If I take a decision about my captaincy now, it will be an emotional decision. I will go back, take a few days, then see what I decide,” he said.
