New Delhi. England’s star cricketer Jonny Bairstow has appealed to United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to take the team back home. He has made this appeal amid the devastation caused by war in the Middle East. He is currently visiting Abu Dhabi in a coaching role with the England Lions. UAE government media reported that one person died in Abu Dhabi, but did not provide further information.

According to Reuters, loud explosions were heard in Abu Dhabi. Many residents received alerts by phone advising them to take shelter in the nearest secure building and stay away from windows due to missile threat. On Saturday evening, Starmer issued his statement on Iran, to which Bairstow responded in the early hours of Sunday.

The statement also said that the second 50-over match between Pakistan Shaheen and England Lions to be held on Sunday, March 1 will no longer be played. A witness told Reuters he heard five loud bangs, shaking windows, at a house near Abu Dhabi’s Corniche. Residents of Al Dhafra and Al Batin areas also reported loud explosions, while fighter planes were seen hovering over Yas Island on Saturday afternoon.
