New Delhi. Whenever there is talk of records in the shortest format of cricket, big names are often mentioned. But in the Super-8 stage of T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan’s opening batsman Sahibzada Farhan has done what no other great batsman could do in a single edition of T20 World Cup till date. Farhan not only scored a brilliant century against Sri Lanka at Pallekele ground, but also got his name registered in golden letters in the pages of history.

Left behind Chris Gayle’s record
In the history of T20 World Cup, ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle was the only batsman to have two centuries in his name. However, Gayle scored these two centuries in different editions (2007 and 2016). Farhan has now not only equaled Gayle by touching the 100 mark twice in the same tournament, but has also gone one step ahead of him in terms of consistency.
‘Farhan Show’ in Pallekele against Sri Lanka
On the Pallekele pitch, the Sri Lankan bowlers had no answer to Farhan’s batting. He along with Fakhar Zaman (84 runs) made a record breaking partnership of 176 runs for the first wicket. This has also become the biggest partnership for any wicket in T20 World Cup history.
Farhan used the pace of experienced bowlers like Chameera and Madushanka very well during his innings. The biggest quality of his batting was that he scored runs against both spin and pace with equal ease.
Match status: Pakistan’s huge score
Thanks to Farhan’s 100 runs, Pakistan scored a huge score of 212/8 in the stipulated 20 overs. However, in the last overs, Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka made a brilliant comeback and dismissed Farhan and Shaheen Afridi, due to which Pakistan’s innings faltered a bit. Pakistan slipped from the score of 176/1 at one time and ended its innings at 212/8.
