When a woman, busy in wedding preparations, woke up and looked in the mirror, she screamed. The woman saw that half of her face was hanging. She was neither able to speak nor drink water. Later he came to know about the shocking truth.

Wedding day is the most beautiful dream of life for any woman. But for 47-year-old Charlie Beswick, this dream turned into a scary reality. Charlie and his partner Andrew had waited 8 long years for their wedding. They wanted to get married on the same date on which they met for the first time. But when Charlie woke up one morning amid wedding preparations, her world was ruined. As soon as he took a sip from the glass of water kept near the bed, water flowed down his mouth. He thought that perhaps he had suffered a stroke overnight. Charlie looked at the mirror (mobile selfie camera) nervously. His face was completely hanging on one side. She was neither able to speak clearly nor close one of her eyes.
Charlie says, “I was very scared. My first thought was about my disabled son, what would happen to him if something happens to me? Then the thought of marriage came, will I go to the wedding hall with this crooked face?” His nurse sister advised him to go to the hospital immediately, where it was found that he was suffering from a disease called ‘Bell’s Palsy’. Bell’s palsy is a condition in which the muscles on one side of the face become weak or stop working. Charlie got this disease after recovering from Corona and a serious ear infection. The doctors warned him that his face might remain crooked forever, which shook Charlie to the core. She did not leave the house for two weeks. With her face bandaged and ashamed of her appearance, she used to sleep day and night.
Not only this, he felt very tired even while walking a short distance. Charlie was given steroid pills, but the real improvement came when a friend of hers gifted her the ‘CACI Facial Treatment’ course. In this the facial muscles are toned by using microcurrents (slow electricity). After 10 sessions of this course, which cost more than Rs 60,000 (about £ 600), his face started getting better within 4 weeks. But during this time he also had to face bitter behavior from the society. People used to call him ‘weird’ and ask why his face looked like that. The interesting and sad thing is that Charlie’s own son was also born with a rare facial disease, due to which he has been trolled since childhood.
Charlie says, “What happened to me made me realize for the first time what it feels like to stand out and be judged by people.” Charlie believes that he got this disease due to the immense stress caused by raising a disabled child and fighting for his rights. She had been trying to balance the care of her son and her job for the last two decades, due to which she became a victim of ‘burnout’. Today Charlie has completely recovered, but she is now helping people who are going through similar stress. He says that if you feel even the slightest weakness in your face, immediately consult a doctor and ask for steroids. He has also appealed to the management of corporate companies to be sympathetic towards the caring employees.
