West Indies set a target of 177 runs for South Africa on the back of Romaria Shepherd’s half-century and a brilliant partnership with Jason Holder. Batting first, West Indies scored 176 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. For West Indies, only Shepherd and Holder gave strong performances which enabled the team to set a challenging target. Shepherd returned unbeaten after scoring 52 runs in 37 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes.
South Africa performed strongly under the leadership of Lungi Ngidi and shocked the West Indies. West Indies’ score at one time was 83 runs for seven wickets. But Shepherd and Holder then took over the innings and both the batsmen made a partnership of 89 runs in 57 balls for the eighth wicket, which helped West Indies out of trouble. Holder was run out in the last over which broke the partnership. Holder was out after scoring 49 runs in 31 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes.
Apart from Holder and Shepherd, for West Indies, Brendon King scored 21, Shai Hope 16, Sherfane Rutherford 12 and Matthew Ford scored 11 runs, while Rovman Powell was out after scoring 9, Shimron Hetmyer 2 and Roston Chase 2 runs. Ngidi took three wickets for South Africa, while Kagiso Rabada and Corbin Bosch got two wickets each.
