Mumbai News: Extortion of Rs 30 lakh demanded from businessman in the name of Lawrence Bishnoi gang, police caught 4

A big case of demanding extortion money of Rs 30 lakh from a reputed bullion trader in the name of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has come to light in Mumbai. In this case, Borivali police, showing promptness, laid a well-planned trap and caught four accused red handed when they had come to collect gold coin as ransom from the businessman.

According to Sandeep Jadhav, DCP of Zone 12 of Mumbai, this entire incident took place between February 18 and February 24, 2026. A renowned bullion businessman from Borivali was continuously receiving calls and messages from international numbers. The accused who made the call introduced themselves as members of the ‘Lawrence Bishnoi Gang’ and demanded Rs 30 lakh from the businessman. The accused threatened that if the amount was not received on time, the businessman and his family would be killed, due to which the entire family was in deep fear.

Case registered on businessman’s complaint

On the complaint of the businessman, Borivali police registered a case under various sections of ‘Indian Justice Code 2023’ and started investigation. The police made a strategy to catch the accused on the basis of technical surveillance and call details. On the instructions of the police, the businessman called the accused on the pretext of giving them cash and gold coins instead of sending the money to the bank account. As soon as one of the accused reached Mumbai’s Mahim area to collect the gold coin, the police took him into custody and on his information arrested the remaining three associates.

Use of big gang to recover huge amount

The four arrested accused are originally residents of Dhanbad district of Jharkhand and their age is between 27 to 36 years. During interrogation, it has been indicated that these accused used to create panic among the businessmen by using the name of big gang in an organized manner so that huge amount of money could be easily recovered. The police are currently closely examining their mobile data, bank transactions and old contacts to clarify whether they actually have any direct connection with the Bishnoi gang or whether they have just used the name.

Mumbai Police appeals to traders

After this incident, Mumbai Police has appealed to the businessmen not to be afraid of receiving any kind of threatening call and immediately inform the police. Police say that inspired by social media and criminal news in the media, some small criminals are adopting the trend of demanding extortion in the name of big gangs. This successful operation not only saved the life of a businessman, but also stopped the possible panic spreading in the city in time.
