
Delhi Assembly Secretariat has adopted a strict stance in the matter of alleged objectionable remarks against Sikh Gurus. In this regard, a letter has been sent to Kailash Gautam, Under Secretary (Home-II Branch) of the Home Department (Chandigarh) of the Punjab Government, informing him about the instructions of the Privileges Committee.
This matter is the leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly. Atishi It is related to the complaint of breach of privilege and contempt filed on behalf of. It has been alleged in the complaint that the alleged comments made in relation to Sikh Gurus are serious and objectionable, due to which the dignity of the House has been affected. Acting on this, the matter was placed before the Chairman of the Privileges Committee of the Assembly and it was taken on record.
Instructions to Punjab DGP to present his side
The Secretariat has clarified that the notice issued to the concerned officers was not sent merely due to non-receipt of response, but the details of the entire matter had already been shared. Now the committee has directed the concerned officers Additional Chief Secretary (Home-II), Director General of Police of Punjab and Commissioner of Jalandhar to present their case in person at the scheduled time on 27 February 2026.
‘It is not appropriate to ask for clarification again and again’
It has also been said in the letter that it is not appropriate to repeatedly ask for clarification from the committee. If the committee needs any kind of information or answers, it will ask for it itself. Along with this, a copy of those standing orders, which have been mentioned in the correspondence, has also been sought from the Home Department of Punjab Government.
Power to the Privilege Committee of the Assembly
It is noteworthy that the Privilege Committee of the Delhi Assembly has the right to summon the concerned persons or officers to protect the dignity and rights of the House. Earlier too, in various cases the committee has called the officials and sought their answers. The main responsibility of the committee is to protect the proceedings of the Assembly and the rights of its members.
