High alert in Srinagar before Vice President’s visit to Kashmir, red zone declared around Dal Lake

Ahead of the first visit of Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan to Kashmir, security has been increased in Srinagar city and checking has been intensified. The Vice President is going to attend the annual convocation ceremony at Kashmir University on Thursday (26 February). Kashmir University and most of the areas around Dal Lake have been declared red zones.

Authorities have made strict security arrangements. Especially in Hazratbal, strict vigil is being maintained in and around the university campus. To smoothly conduct this high-profile event, a multi-layered security cover has been created.

Special arrangements are being made for the security of the Vice President

Large contingents of police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in specific areas of the city, especially on the roads leading to the university. As a precautionary measure, security personnel were seen checking vehicles and people coming and going at major intersections. Officials said that more checkpoints have been made at many entry and exit points of the city. While random checking of vehicles is being done. A senior police officer said that security has been increased as per standard protocol during the visit of VVIPs. All necessary steps have been taken to ensure safety.

Cordon and search operation started in many parts of Sri Nagar

According to the information, as part of the security measures, security forces launched cordon and search operations (CASO) in several parts of Srinagar late Sunday evening and Monday morning. Officials said that door-to-door checking was done in residential areas considered sensitive. Although no major incident took place during the operation, the presence of armed people in some parts of the city further increased the security environment. The campus of Kashmir University has been kept in a multi-tier security grid. Entry into the campus is being strictly regulated.

Checkpoints made on the roads leading to the university

Officials said that checkpoints have been made on the roads leading to the university and search points have been made at many places. Sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads have also been deployed as a precaution. The famous Boulevard Road around Dal Lake and the Dalgate-Zakura Road leading to the Kashmir University campus will remain closed for the general public on February 26. The traffic police has issued strict guidelines. In which it has been said that no general traffic will be allowed on the road on that day.

The Vice President plans to address the graduating students during the convocation ceremony. Where successful candidates of different subjects will be given degrees. University officials said that huge arrangements have been made for this event and rehearsals have also been taking place for the last few days.
