Hubli: Jammu and Kashmir, which was playing the final for the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy, suffered a big blow when team captain Paras Dogra got injured. In the historic final against Karnataka in Hubli, Jammu and Kashmir had decided to bat first after winning the toss. The team had a bad start, but Yawar Hasan and Shubham Pundir took charge of the innings. However, Hasan was out after scoring 88 runs.

After this, captain Paras came on the field to bat, but he could score only 9 runs when he got injured by a deadly bouncer from Prasidh Krishna. The ball was very fast. In such a situation, he retired hurt and returned back to the pavilion, but after this, Shubham and Abdul Samad took charge of the team and made Karnataka proud.

Shubham Pundir scored a century in the final

In this way, on the first day of the Ranji Trophy final, Jammu and Kashmir made a strong start against Karnataka by scoring 284 runs for two wickets. Khabbu batsman Shubham is unbeaten on 117 runs at the end of the day’s play, while Abdul Samad (52 not out) is supporting him with a half-century. Earlier, 27-year-old Shubham and Yawar added 139 runs for the second wicket and laid the foundation of a big score against the eight-time champion team. Shubham, who was involved in two century partnerships, completed his century by hitting a six over deep mid-wicket against Shikhar Shetty. He celebrated this achievement by taking off his helmet and raising his hands towards the dressing room.

Why did Jammu and Kashmir choose batting after winning the toss?

Seeing the possibility of the pitch providing more support to the spinners as the match progressed, Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and decided to bat first, which has proved correct so far. Jammu and Kashmir, which reached the Ranji final for the first time after defeating established teams like Madhya Pradesh and Bengal in the knockout, got the first blow when Kamran Iqbal (six) was caught by KL Rahul at slip on the outgoing ball of Prasidh Krishna.

After this, Yawar and Shubham took charge of the team in the first session and by lunch the score reached 104 runs for one wicket. At lunch, Yawar was unbeaten on 57 and Shubham was unbeaten on 38 runs. Both batted with confidence and did not give Karnataka’s experienced bowlers a chance to make an impact. The new ball troubled the batsmen in the beginning of the day and the ball dodged the bat several times and even hit a few edges, but both of them endured this difficult phase with composure.
