
Citizenship Amendment Act (CAAUnder this, the way has been cleared for providing Indian citizenship to 153 refugees living in Uttarakhand. After the completion of the investigation process of the Home Department, the Government of India has approved these applications. According to the information, these include 147 people from Pakistan and 6 from Afghanistan. 51 applications are said to be still under consideration.
This provision applies to people of Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities who came to India due to religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014. Eligible beneficiaries in the state had applied through online mode, which were scrutinized as per the guidelines of the Central Government.
Special program in Haridwar on 7th March
According to sources, in a special program organized in Haridwar on March 7, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah Citizenship certificates can be handed over to eligible beneficiaries. Preparations for this program have been intensified at the administrative level. The security arrangements and arrangements of the venue are also being reviewed.
Review of public dialogue and development works
It is being told that during his visit, the Union Home Minister will also participate in the public dialogue program and review the development work done by the state government. This program is also considered important from the political point of view, because assembly elections are proposed in the state next year. In such a situation, it is also being seen as the beginning of the election preparations of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
CM Dhami’s preparation
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that special preparations are being made to honor the new citizens. All the concerned beneficiaries are being contacted and invited to the program so that they can be formally provided with the citizenship certificate. This program organized on the occasion of completion of four years of Dhami government is being considered important from both administrative and political point of view. The state government says that eligible people have been granted citizenship as per the legal process and further decisions on pending applications will be taken as per rules.
