Former selector and member of the 1983 World Cup champion team, K Srikanth has advised Indian team coach Gautam Gambhir to take up his responsibility. He strongly criticized Akshar Patel for not fielding him against South Africa.
K Srikanth raised questions on coach Gautam Gambhir’s decision
New Delhi. The question is being raised everywhere whether Team India will be able to win the T20 World Cup without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir. India lost its first match against South Africa in the T20 World Cup Super 8. Now the team needs to defeat West Indies and Zimbabwe to reach the semi-finals. Despite this, it may be difficult for the host team to reach the last four. Due to this, the Indian cricket team has come into a unique situation.
1983 World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth has advised coach Gautam Gambhir that he should take more responsibility as a coach. Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “I don’t know what Gautam Gambhir does. Shouldn’t he make strategies and decide the playing eleven? If he continues with such strategies then his loss is certain. India is now in a situation where they have to keep an eye on the remaining matches and hope for good results. After the defeat, Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav are talking. After all, what are you talking about when you took a decision like dropping Axar Patel?”
“You have a serious coach and there are many other coaches along with him. Can’t they all take simple decisions? Will someone drop Axar Patel? He is the vice-captain. It seems that whoever is the vice-captain of the Indian T20 team, he is dropped. The same thing happened with Shubman Gill. Now no one would want to be the vice-captain in T20. Whoever becomes the vice-captain, he is dropped from the team.”
He described this defeat as one of the worst defeats for India in T20. Srikkanth said, “This is one of the most embarrassing defeats in the T20 history of Indian cricket. Don’t try to sweeten this defeat. This is the worst defeat apart from the semi-finals of 2022. That is why the match against Zimbabwe has now become very important. Suddenly the Zimbabwe-West Indies match has also become important for India. I don’t know for whom India will pray. But first of all, they should pray for themselves,” Srikkanth said.
India’s next T20 World Cup Super 8 match is on Wednesday, while the last match will be against West Indies on Sunday.
