Varun Chakravarthy: Varun Chakravarthy created history in T20 International, became the first Indian bowler to do so

New Delhi. Even though Varun Chakraborty’s performance was not good in the Super-8 match of the T20 World Cup against South Africa, he created history with the one wicket he took. Actually, this mystery spinner has become the first bowler of India, who has achieved the feat of taking at least one wicket in 18 consecutive T20 International matches. In this matter, Varun broke the record of fellow bowler Arshdeep Singh. Arshdeep had done this in 17 consecutive T20 International matches.

Varun proved to be very expensive in the match. He took 1 wicket for 47 runs in his four overs. He got the only wicket in the form of David Miller. This explosive South African batsman was playing after scoring a half-century, when Varun dismissed Miller on the fourth ball of his fourth over. Miller tried to play a big shot on Varun’s ball, but the ball went into the hands of Tilak Verma standing near the boundary and he was caught out.

Arshdeep had made this record by dismissing at least one batsman in 17 consecutive T20I matches for India from 29 June 2024 to 9 December 2025, but now Varun has become number-1 in this matter. The last time for Varun to not take any wicket in a T20I match for India came on September 21, 2025. Since then, Varun has taken 34 wickets in the 18 T20I matches played and remains India’s biggest match winner.
