Rahul Dravid expressed hope of India Zimbabwe final
New Delhi. Coach Rahul Dravid, who made the Indian team the world champion, has said a big thing about the ICC T20 World Cup. He believes that it would be good if Zimbabwe team reaches the final of the tournament with India. He said that Team India should stick to its game plan, no matter what. Suryakumar Yadav’s team will start its Super-8 campaign against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
“I think India’s biggest advantage is that we are not dependent on 1-2 players. We have depth in the team. So you can expect that depth to come to the fore. There is uncertainty in T20 cricket. It is the most volatile format of the game, and on any given day, as I have learned as a coach too, you can lose. Stick to the process, do what you can and hope for the best,” Dravid told NDTV.
In one of the biggest upsets in the history of T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe defeated Australia in the group match. 2021 winners Australia had to bow out of the tournament after losing to Sri Lanka and then the match between Zimbabwe and Ireland was cancelled. Later Zimbabwe also defeated Sri Lanka at home. Dravid, impressed by the African country’s achievements so far, has no objection to the India vs Zimbabwe final.
Dravid further said, “I would take India vs any team. India vs Zimbabwe? It would be great for Zimbabwe cricket. If Zimbabwe reaches the final, it would be amazing. I would like any smaller team to reach the final along with India. It would be great,” Dravid further said.
The ongoing T20 World Cup will be remembered for how the Associate nations gave a tough competition to the Test nations. Pakistan almost lost to Netherlands. Then America surprised India’s top order and middle order, but Suryakumar Yadav took charge of the team. There were many such matches where small teams gave a good challenge to the big teams of international cricket. For Dravid, this was the biggest highlight of the tournament.
What did Dravid say on associate teams?
“The most special thing about the World Cup for me, which people are talking about a lot, is that many of the associate teams have played excellent cricket. It is good to see how much talent is available in the associate countries. All the teams have given good performance. Maybe many of them have not been able to qualify for the Super-8, which is always difficult in this format, but despite this they have shown that they have good young talent.”
