What did the court say?
The Supreme Court bench, which included Chief Justice Surya Kant, made strong remarks, saying that most of the states are already in losses, yet they are distributing free facilities except for development. The court clearly said – it makes sense to provide assistance to those who cannot pay. But giving freebies to everyone without any distinction between rich and poor is a wrong policy. During this, the court warned and said that if free food, bicycles and electricity continue to be provided from morning till evening, then the spirit of work among the people will reduce. At the same time, the court advised the states that instead of distributing free things, they should focus on creating employment opportunities.
