This time the election for the post of Chairperson of Panipat Zilla Parishad was completely full of excitement. The competition was so tough that in the end the decision had to be taken by slip. After the tie vote, a slip of paper changed the political picture and Jyoti Sharma again sat on the chairperson’s chair.
Suspense increased due to 8-8 votes
Election officer Vivek Chaudhary said that all the members were present in the elections and voting was conducted through EVMs. A total of 16 valid votes were cast. Jyoti Sharma got 8 votes and 8 votes went in favor of Sudesh Rani.
As soon as the result was tied, there was silence in the House. No one could understand what would happen next. According to the rules, when votes are equal, the decision is taken by slip. Therefore, according to the guidelines of the State Election Commission dated December 7, 2022, the further process was started.
Final decision taken by slip
The ballots were cast in the presence of both the candidates and all the councillors. The entire process was done in a transparent manner. An impartial person took out the slip and Jyoti Sharma’s name appeared in it. After this he was officially declared the winner. The election officer said that the entire process was fair and all the councilors expressed their satisfaction in writing.
Jyoti Sharma became emotional after the victory
Jyoti Sharma looked very emotional after the victory. She said, “I consider it not my own but God’s victory. This is also a victory for the eight members who stood firmly with us. This is a victory for the entire Zilla Parishad and the government.”
He also said that when the competition becomes equal then the decision is in the hands of God. The situation was completely uncertain at the time of the results, so emotions were also natural.
It is noteworthy that Jyoti Sharma became the chairperson on 27 December 2022 with the support of BJP. But on March 6, 2024, he had to step down due to protests. At that time 13 out of 17 councilors had turned against him.
After this, on June 14, 2024, Kajal Deshwal unanimously became the chairperson, but her tenure also did not last long. Now the return of Jyoti Sharma for the second time in three years has again brought the politics of Zilla Parishad into discussion.
Jyoti Sharma said that now her entire focus will be on the development of the district. He talked about taking forward the stalled works with the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas”.
