The long standing problem of parking in Nehru Place, the main business center of South Delhi, has got a big relief. On Monday, the six-storey state-of-the-art multilevel car parking was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. With its commencement, the problem of disorganized parking and jam in the market area is expected to reduce.

Nehru Place is counted among the largest IT and electronics markets in the country, thousands of people reach here every day for shopping and business purposes. Due to limited roadside parking and unauthorized parked vehicles, there is often severe traffic jam. The new multilevel parking is being considered an important step towards reducing this pressure. This six-storey parking can accommodate 650 four-wheelers and 352 two-wheelers at a time. On the basis of rotation system, around 2,000 vehicles will get parking facility here every day. This will reduce illegal parking on the roads of the market area and traffic will remain more orderly.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena said that it is very satisfying to hand over this automated multilevel car parking complex at Nehru Place. This fulfills a long standing public need and will significantly reduce parking congestion and traffic caused by unauthorized parking in the area. Nehru Place was developed by DDA as part of the District Center Redevelopment Plan. He urged people to use this modern facility.

And support our collective vision of a green and smart Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that lack of parking in the busy markets of the capital has been a big challenge. The government is identifying areas where multilevel parking or automated parking structures can be developed in a phased manner. He said that such facilities will be developed in future also by using the available government land.
