On 13 February 2026, the navies of India, Japan and Indonesia conducted a trilateral exercise in the Andaman Sea. The objective of this exercise was to increase the joint preparedness, operational capability and cooperation of the navies of the three countries. Indian Navy spokesperson gave this information in a post on social media platform X. He said that this exercise will help in maintaining a safe, stable and strong maritime domain.

Let us tell you that earlier on February 11, the Indian Navy took command of Combined Task Force 154 (CTF 154). It is a multi-national training task force that operates under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). The change of command ceremony took place in Manama, Bahrain, in the presence of VADM Kurt A Renshaw, Commander, CMF, and other senior military officers.

Indian Navy takes command of CTF-154

Indian Navy Commodore Milind Mokashi, Shaurya Chakra formally took over the command of CTF 154 from the former Italian Navy Commander. The main objective of CTF 154 is training and capacity building for member countries. The task force conducts training programs to combat common maritime challenges such as illicit trafficking, piracy and irregular migration.

Works with other task forces of CMF


It is noteworthy that CTF 154 works in collaboration with other task forces of CMF like CTF 150 (Maritime Security), CTF 151 (Anti-Piracy), CTF 152 (Security in the Arabian Sea) and CTF 153 (Security in the Red Sea). The operation of this force has further strengthened India’s professional capability, experience and confidence in security cooperation.
