New Delhi. Due to playing for the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, M Chinnaswamy has become Virat Kohli’s stronghold. The Karnataka State Cricket Association, led by former Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad, honored India’s legendary players Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The special contribution of the greats to cricket was appreciated by naming two stands after both of them. This honor was given for his achievements in Indian and Karnataka cricket.

Anil Kumble also served as the head coach of India for one year from June 2016 to June 2017. He is India’s highest wicket taker bowler in both Test and ODI. Rahul Dravid is the second highest run scorer in Test cricket after Sachin Tendulkar. As the head coach of India, he led the team to win the T20 World Cup in Barbados in 2024. The special thing is that both have also been captains of the Indian team.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that the contribution of all of us has made Karnataka cricket what it is today. Karnataka cricket has also made all of us. It is not just about whose name is on which stand. It is very special that all the contributions have been recognized and now they are recorded forever in the stadium,” Kumble said in a media release.

Shanta Rangaswami got a big honor

Kumble is also happy that stands have been built in the names of Dravid and former women’s national team captain Shanta Rangaswamy. He said, “It is great that my cricketing teammates Rahul Dravid and Shantha Rangaswamy have also been honored for their huge contribution to Karnataka and Indian cricket. Congratulations to you all. To see the stand named after so many legends, some of whom I had the privilege of playing with and some who set examples and guidance for us at KSCA, is truly fantastic.”

How was Rangaswami’s career?

It is noteworthy that Shanta Rangaswami is the first Indian woman to score a Test century and she has played an important role in the development of women’s cricket in the country. Rangaswami scored 1,037 runs in 16 Tests and 19 Women’s ODIs played between 1976 and 1991, which included one century and seven half-centuries. Last October, he was elected President of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA).
