Once again the genie of “Operation Lotus” has come out in the politics of Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj has made a sensational allegation on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to poach MLAs. Taking the name of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directly, he has claimed that he was tempted to join BJP.
Ticket from Sangrur and offer of desired Murad
MLA Bharaj revealed that for the last four-five days, an influential person from Sangrur was contacting him by acting as a middleman. The person offered to arrange a meeting with Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini. According to Bharaj, she was offered that if she joins BJP, she will be given BJP ticket from Sangrur in the upcoming elections.
It was also said that if they have any other demand, it will also be fulfilled. Bharaj told that he has handed over all the evidence of this conversation to the party high command and now the party will decide the further action.
BJP has shortage of leaders: Cheema
Punjab Finance Minister and senior AAP leader Harpal Singh Cheema has given a sharp reaction on this matter. He said that BJP does not have any support base and strong leaders of its own in Punjab, hence out of frustration they are conspiring to break the leaders of other parties.
Haryana government called the allegations false
On the other hand, Haryana Chief Minister’s Media Secretary Praveen Atreya has rejected all these allegations outright. Describing this as the old strategy of AAP, he said that the Punjab government has failed to fulfill its promises, hence it is now making such fabricated allegations to divert the public’s attention.
Preparation and old history of 2027 elections
It is noteworthy that Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini is increasing his activism in the state in view of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Earlier in 2022 also, AAP had accused BJP of luring its MLAs with money, on which the police had also registered an FIR against unknown people.
