Court orders MS Dhoni to deposit Rs 10 lakh
New Delhi: Former Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is once again in the news in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing case. MS Dhoni’s name was also raised in this fixing. During that time Dhoni was the captain of Chennai Super Kings. In such a situation, he had filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore in Madras High Court. In this case, a CD has also been presented in the court as evidence on behalf of Dhoni. Now Madras High Court has ordered him to deposit Rs 10 lakh regarding this CD.
This amount has been fixed for Dhoni to cover the expenses of translation and transcription of old CDs, which contain alleged defamatory material related to the 2013 IPL betting scam. The court made it clear that since Dhoni is the plaintiff in this case, the responsibility of presenting the evidence in a language understandable to the court and its expenses rests with him.
Dhoni is exempted from appearing in court
Justice R.N. Manjula described this work as quite challenging and said that it would take at least 3 to 4 months for a translator and typist to translate the news clippings and debates in Hindi. This legal battle has been going on since 2014, which Dhoni has started with Zee Media, Sudhir Chaudhary and IPS officer G. Had filed a complaint against parties like Sampat Kumar on charges of tarnishing his image.
However, in view of security reasons and Dhoni’s popularity, the court has exempted him from appearing personally and has appointed an Advocate Commissioner to record his testimony. Now, to start the trial, it is necessary to translate these documents, for which the court has ordered to take the help of an official translator and its entire expense should be borne by Dhoni.
