
Anger has started appearing in trade unions against labor laws in Uttarakhand. There will be a strike in the entire country on Thursday (12 February) on the call of central trade unions. In Uttarakhand also, Joint Trade Union Sangharsh Samiti has announced to participate in it. Apart from big organizations like CITU, INTUC and AITUC, dozens of organizations including Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, Bhojanmata, auto drivers, bus driver-conductors, construction workers, tea garden workers, school employees, bank employees, Transport Corporation employees and Insurance Federation will join this movement.
Leaders opened front
A front has been opened against the labor laws by the union leaders. While talking to the press, INTUC State President and former Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Bisht, CITU Provincial General Secretary Rajendra Singh Negi, AITUC Provincial General Secretary Ashok Sharma, CITU Provincial Secretary Lekhraj and Basti Bachao Andolan convener Anant Akash together put forward the reasons and demands of the strike.
Deep anger over labor codes
Union leaders fiercely targeted the central government. They allege that in the midst of the Corona crisis in 2020, when the country was struggling with the situation, 44 old labor laws were merged into four new labor codes by suspending the opposition MPs. Now it has been announced that they will be implemented from 21st November 2025.
Leaders say that these laws are in the interest of capitalists. This will increase the exploitation of workers, their rights will be lost and a slavery-like situation will arise. That is why it is being opposed in the entire country.

During the strike, voice will also be raised against the settlements being demolished in the name of elevated road project and NGT. The slum residents made it clear that they will also actively participate in the Secretariat March on 12th February and demand ownership rights on their land.
