The Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) under the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a large interstate drug network and uprooted a drug smuggling gang. Apart from Delhi, this gang was active in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana. In this action, the police have recovered psychotropic substances worth more than Rs 50 crore.
Police have arrested seven accused during this intensive operation. 48 kg of dangerous psychotropic substances like Tramadol and Alprazolam have been recovered from them. The demand for these drugs in the international market is very high due to addiction. The arrested accused have been identified as Anirudh, Manoj, Kishanpal alias Bhullar, Krishna Tanwar, Manoj Kumar, Prashant and Amit.
The investigation started from Lajpat Nagar
The investigation of this entire matter started in September 2024, when the police received secret information about the arrival of a large consignment of illegal drugs in Delhi. The Crime Branch team laid a trap and first caught Anirudh from Lajpat Nagar, from whom 2 kg of Tramadol powder was found. With the help of strict interrogation of Anirudh and technical surveillance, the police was successful in reaching other members of this organized syndicate.
‘Death business’ under the guise of pharma sector
The investigation revealed the shocking fact that the arrested accused had a good understanding of the medical and pharma sector. They used to arrange raw material by taking advantage of this expertise. After this, the medicines were packed illegally and sold at high prices in the open market without any doctor’s prescription.
Simultaneous raids in 5 states
Delhi Police conducted raids in several states simultaneously to catch this gang:
- Uttar Pradesh: Arrest of accused Manoj.
- Delhi: Kishanpal and Krishna Tanwar were arrested.
- Haryana: Manoj Kumar was caught due to smuggling links.
- Himachal and Uttarakhand: Prashant and Amit were arrested from where the supply chain of drugs was operating.
According to Delhi Police, this action is a major success in the campaign against drugs. The police are now investigating the financial transactions and other possible contacts of this gang so that the entire drug money network can be destroyed.
