ICC T20 World Cup warm-up match between Pakistan and Ireland canceled due to rain

New Delhi. By deciding not to play in the ICC T20 World Cup against India, the Pakistan government has increased the problems for their team. Even before entering the tournament, chances are being created that the team will be eliminated from the first round. One reason for this was seen in the first warm-up match of Pakistan team. Pakistan has been placed in Group A along with India, Namibia, Netherlands and America. The team’s first match is to be against Netherlands on 7 February.

It is a big blow for Pakistan and Ireland that their warm-up match before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 could not be played due to rain. ICC informed the fans about its cancellation. Not a single ball could be played in the match because both the teams could not take the field due to rain. When the situation in Colombo did not improve, the officials decided to cancel the match. This was the only match for both the countries before the start of the tournament.

Recently, Pakistan defeated Australia 3-0 in the three-match T20 series. The batsmen and spinners performed brilliantly on the slow and turning pitches of Lahore. Similar conditions and pitches are expected to prevail in Sri Lanka, where Pakistan team will play all its matches. There are clouds of crisis regarding the match against arch-rival India on 15th February. Pakistan Cricket Board has not given any official information regarding this to ICC.

The Pakistan government has asked the team to boycott the match against India. ICC has issued a warning to PCB regarding this. Back channel diplomacy has started to end the latest dispute. Pakistan, India, Netherlands, USA and Namibia are in Group A, while Ireland are included in Group B along with Australia, Oman, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
