New Delhi. The T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan is proposed in Sri Lanka on 15th February. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif says that his team will boycott the World Cup match against India. Pakistani PM has said in clear words that Pakistan team will not play against India. Earlier, the Government of Pakistan had said on social media that we allow our team to play in the T20 World Cup but we will boycott the proposed match against India in Sri Lanka. However, despite all this, nothing has been officially sent to the ICC by the Pakistan Cricket Board yet. ICC is still waiting for the official statement from PCB.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday (February 4) confirmed that the Pakistani men’s cricket team will not play its match against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Arch rivals India and Pakistan will face each other in a Group A match of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Colombo on February 15. But according to Sharif, Pakistan will not play against the Indian team because it stands with Bangladesh and there should not be politics on the sports field.

Pakistani PM gave the reason for not playing with India.

Addressing the cabinet in Pakistan, Shahbaz said, ‘We have taken a very clear stand on the T20 World Cup that we will not play matches against India because Pakistan has said that this is a playground, not a field of politics. There should be no politics on the playground. We have taken this decision after very careful consideration and we should fully stand with Bangladesh, and I think it is a very appropriate decision.

Shahbaz’s statement comes days after it was reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused to formally inform the International Cricket Council (ICC) about its decision to boycott the Group A match against India. NDTV sources told, ‘Pakistan will not send any formal email to the ICC regarding the boycott of the T20 World Cup match against India.’ If the PCB does not formally inform the global cricket body about its government’s decision, the India-Pakistan match will continue and the drama over the boycott will continue in the days to come.

According to reports, ICC is waiting for official information from PCB and not receiving official information would mean that ICC may also have to wait before deciding further action. India will visit Colombo despite Pakistan’s boycott. India will travel to Colombo for the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Pakistan on February 15 and will participate in the press conference to be held a day before the match. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav will have to come to the field for the toss, only then he will get a walkover. If Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga does not come for the toss, the referee will give a walkover and India will get two points.
