Around 350-400 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be deployed to ensure security arrangements during the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar. A CAPF company consists of about 70-80 personnel.
The dates of the 243 -member assembly elections are expected to be announced by the Election Commission in early October. Officials said on Friday that identified companies have been asked to leave their deployment site and go to Bihar. These companies also include units of forces protecting international borders. He said that when the Election Commission gives instructions to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a certain number of companies, more companies can be increased or reduced.
Maximum companies will be taken from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Officials said that apart from other CAPFs like Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and some Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) will also be deployed in Bihar.
According to CAPF officials, these companies will be in addition to Bihar Police units to provide security during the upcoming assembly elections. About 300 CAPF companies were deployed during the last three -phase assembly elections held in the state in 2020.
