Health officials said in a recent report that African swine fever has been detected in Thrissur district of Kerala.

An official release said that this team under the leadership of Animal Husbandry Department has started a campaign to stop the spread of the disease. Authorities have declared an area of ​​one kilometer around the affected form to an infected and 10 km area around it as a monitoring area.

District Collector Arjun Pandian has ordered the infected areas to ban the sale and transportation of pigs and asked to stop their work to the shops selling pig meat. Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Isaac Sam clarified that the disease only affects pigs and does not spread to other animals or humans.

Cases were also reported in Arunachal Pradesh

Earlier, an outbreak of African swine fever was revealed from various places in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. District Magistrate Liyi Bagra of West Siang had said on 4 September that the district administration had banned the import of pigs from outside the district to prevent the spread of the disease.

Apart from this, the administration had directed the butchers selling pig meat to receive inspection reports from the veterinary officer. Those who violated the order were also warned to register a case under the relevant provisions of the law.
