Autopane was used to give pardon
In the last months of Biden’s tenure, he used Autopen to give up and reduce punishment to more than 4,000 people. This number was so large that it was impossible to sign individually. Trump had said in January 2025 that there is no value of the apology given by Biden as these documents were signed with autopan and Biden did not know anything about them.
Used during Trump’s tenure
Biden said in an interview to New York Times in July 2025 that he had taken all the decisions orally and autopen was used only for signing. According to legal experts, apologies or executive orders signed from autopane in American law are completely valid. It was also used during Trump’s tenure.
