Many big countries are recognizing Palestine as an independent nation amidst the ongoing struggle between Israel and Hamas for two years. Countries like Britain, France, Canada and Australia have openly supported it. But Italy has not taken any such decision till now, due to which pro-Palestinian supporters are protesting in the capital Rome and Milan. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has made it clear that he is not against the recognition of Palestine, but two conditions should be fulfilled for this.

Two conditions of PM Meloni
Talking to the media at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York, PM Meloni said that a proposal will be brought in Parliament on recognizing Palestine. He said that two conditions are necessary before this move-

• Hamas will have to release all Israeli hostages immediately.
• Hamas has to be excluded from the Palestinian government and political processes.

Meloni said that his aim is to maintain stability in any political action and ensure a long -standing solution for Palestinians.

Recognition will not solve the problem- Meloni
Keeping his views, the Prime Minister said, ‘personally I believe that only recognizing Palestine will not solve the problem. This will not lead to concrete results for Palestinians. We also have to ensure that any kind of political instability does not arise.

Changing trend of western countries
Asian countries have long recognized Palestine. But Western countries, who maintained close friendship with the US and Israel, refrained from giving recognition to Palestine for a long time. Due to the two years of violence and struggle in Gaza, some Western countries have started removing Palestine as a nation.
