Recently, this award has been given for research in which painting white stripes on cows gets a large extent from cutting flies.

How safe are these stripes
Scientists in Japan have found that painting white stripes like zebra on the cows gives them protection up to about 50 per cent from cutting flies. The bite of flies causes problems such as stress, low weight and decrease in milk production, which farmers usually resort to pesticides to deal with. This experiment indicates that ordinary white stripes can not only relieve cows but also reduce dependence on pesticides.
