The person who is talking above is Girish Rao, a mechanical engineer. He started Vidal Health in Bangalore in 2002. Vidal provides Third Party Administration (TPA) services in Healthcare Space. A telecom and Fintech professional Shankar Bali joined him as Joint Managing Director. According to the news published in the Yuar Story, today Vidal Health manages a premium portfolio of Rs 3000 crore.

Girish started a business to help NRI (NRI) along with health services for his old parents living in India. He says, “There were problems in taking care of their parents living in their home (India) for NRIs living in America. They could not travel frequently between the two countries. At that time, Jeff Bezos was becoming champions on the internet. Inspired by him, I launched a service portal for NRI and his parents. ” Girish tried several models to create an NRI database. These include working with banks to acquisition of a company that used to post physically email for their elderly parents from NRI without internet access.

All the money in business, everyone drowned
Girish’s business did not get up and between 2000-2002, Girish lost the funds invested by him. However, despite this, he realized that the network of hospitals that he had built in major Indian cities, could have been useful when the government was opening health insurance for the private sector. He says, “In 2001, there was a white paper that told how private organizations can create their existence in this space. Looking at the document, I felt that I have already created a network to build such an organization. In 2002, I applied and got a license. “

Liberalization and increasing popularity of internet increased business
In the late 90s, the liberalization of the insurance sector in India and the growing popularity of the Internet accelerated the entrepreneurial journey of Girish Rao. Girish, who has aimed to challenge the status quo and solve complex problems, told the Yuar Story, “At that time, the Indian insurance sector was opened to private organizations. I got a license and started Vidal Health with a mission to provide good quality TPA services to health insurance policy holders in India and abroad.
Vidal works at more than 800 location
Currently, Vidal – is one of India’s top healthcare management companies – which works at over 800 locations in India and partners with more than 10,000 service providers, including hospitals, diagnostics labs and physicians. Girish claims that Vidal disposes more than 1 million claims (claims) and eight lakh pre -authorization requests every year. Even it handles a premium portfolio worth Rs 3,000 crore in health insurance. However, for Girish, the failure of his first venture sowed the seeds of the establishment of Vidal Health.
