Maharashtra Politics: Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde on Sunday (05 January) described the results of the 2024 assembly elections as a slap on the face of his opponents, who had even criticized the Election Commission and the Supreme Court. The Shiv Sena chief said this after welcoming several Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders from different parts of the state into his party.
Maharashtra Deputy CM said that Shiv Sena is getting stronger. In the recently held assembly elections, the ‘Mahayuti’ alliance of BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 230 out of 288 seats in the state, in which Shinde’s party got 57 seats. Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) got only 20 seats.

Eknath Shinde described the election results as a slap on the face of those who believed that the public would support him. Due to Shinde’s rebellion, Thackeray-led Shiv Sena got divided and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government fell in 2022. “Those who had criticized even the Election Commission and the Supreme Court have been completely rejected by the public,” he said, indirectly referring to Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders.
Eknath Shinde further said, “When he was the Chief Minister for two and a half years, there was a lot of development in Maharashtra and a lot of progress was made in terms of governance.” Shinde said that he had said in the Assembly that if his alliance could win more than 200 seats. If he does not win, he will go back to his village and do farming.

He said, “We won more than 230 seats. The coming of Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders to Shiv Sena reflects the growing strength and continued success of the party. He said that the ideas of party founder Bal Thackeray have shaped Shiv Sena over the years.
